Gal 5:24-26
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
So many times we see people going to the altar and giving there lives to Christ, they confess all there sins and its a very powerful moment for them, and then they leave the church and by the time Tuesday rolls around they have picked 5 of the sins they left at the cross back up.
Christ didn't die on the cross for us to keep picking our old habits back up and continuing to live as the unrighteous do;
Romans 6:6
Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
Col. 3:5
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual sin, impurity, lust, and shameful desires. Don't be greedy for the good things of this life, for that is idolatry.
God had a purpose for Him to die
Romans 8:4
He did this so that the requirement of the law would be fully accomplished for us who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
He gave us the Holy Spirit so that we could walk according to His ways, because we cant do it on our own. Alone we fall and die a pitiful sinful death, with Christ and the Holy Spirit living in us we live victorious and live with a hope and a future
Galatians 5:16
So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.
Philip. 2:3
Don't be selfish; don't live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself.
Without the Holy Spirit, none of that is possible, we in our own strength will always fall back into the sin life, living as corrupt if not more than before;
Matthew 12:43-45
"When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, 'I will return to the person I came from.' So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and clean. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation."
But we don't have to live that way if we live according to the word and listen to the Holy Spirit speak in our hearts.
Col. 2:12
For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to a new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
Galatians 2:20
I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Trust in the Holy Spirit, He is there to guide you and help you along your way. We may not get everything right all the time but we stand a better chance with Him than without Him.
Ephes. 5:9
For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
