Luke 23:1-5 (NLT)
Then the entire council took Jesus over to Pilate, the Roman governor. They began at once to state their case: "This man has been leading our people to ruin by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king."
So Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
Jesus replied, "Yes, it is as you say."
Pilate turned to the leading priests and to the crowd and said, "I find nothing wrong with this man!"
Then they became desperate. "But he is causing riots everywhere he goes, all over Judea, from Galilee to Jerusalem!"
Luke 23:34 (NLT)
Jesus said, "Father, forgive these people, because they don't know what they are doing." And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
There is a reason that the people didn't bring Jesus before a regular court like everyone else, its because they didn't have a case. Some scriptures even say that they brought countless people who would twist there stories before the council until they found something they could use. They were digging for a story because they needed to get rid of the threat that was going to hamper there lifestyle. So they needed to have something that would stick to put before the real council and then the people. They met late at night rehearsing and still couldn't find real fault in our Lord.
In our lives for what ever reason, people come and try to tear us apart for seemingly no reason sometimes. They are enemies of the Cross for sure. They have there agendas, and don't have the moral compass to direct them in the right path. So they make things up, to slander and try to remove what seems like an obstacle to them.
Jesus asked God to forgive the people who were putting him to death—Jewish leaders, Roman politicians and soldiers, bystanders—and God answered that prayer by opening up the way of salvation even to Jesus’ murderers. The Roman centurion and soldiers who witnessed the crucifixion said, “Surely he was the Son of God” (Matthew 27:54). Soon many priests were converted to the Christian faith (Acts 6:7). Because we are all sinners, we all played a part in putting Jesus to death. The gospel—the Good News—is that God is gracious. He will forgive us and give us new life through his Son.
How much more should we forgive those who are not even trying to kill us!
If you are going through a type of persecution today, take a deep breath and forgive them, for they know not what they do. Un-forgiveness is a poison that only kills the one holding it.
Let it go today, get delivered, ask God to forgive you for hanging on to this and ask for His guidance. You most likely will not be released until you let it go yourself.
You never know if your actions either way may keep someone from Jesus or lead them to the feet of Jesus
If Jesus could forgive His Murderer's as He was dying, certainly we can offer forgiveness to those who try to mess up our day!
