2 Chron. 18:28-34 (NLT)
So the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah led their armies against Ramoth-gilead. Now King Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "As we go into battle, I will disguise myself so no one will recognize me, but you wear your royal robes." So Ahab disguised himself, and they went into battle.
Now the king of Aram had issued these orders to his charioteers: "Attack only the king of Israel!" So when the Aramean charioteers saw Jehoshaphat in his royal robes, they went after him. "There is the king of Israel!" they shouted. But Jehoshaphat cried out to the Lord to save him, and God helped him by turning the attack away from him. As soon as the charioteers realized he was not the king of Israel, they stopped chasing him.
An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops, and the arrow hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. "Get me out of here!" Ahab groaned to the driver of his chariot. "I have been badly wounded!" The battle raged all that day, and Ahab propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. Then, just as the sun was setting, he died.
In 2 Chron. 18:9-27 the Lord Spoke through Micaiah saying that the king of Israel would be killed in a battle. But Ahab thought He could trick God and disgiuse himself. He thought he could outsmart the creator.
Have you ever thought you could get away with something only to find your captor on the other side ready to bring judgment?
In all his efforts to trick the other army, God still directed a miss-shot arrow right through the joints of his armor.
In these two passages we see that God is more powerful than we can possibly imagine and He sees and knows all.
2 Chron. 20:15-24 (NLT)
He said, "Listen, King Jehoshaphat! Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow, march out against them. You will find them coming up through the ascent of Ziz at the end of the valley that opens into the wilderness of Jeruel. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord's victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out there tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!"
Then King Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the Lord. Then the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah stood to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud shout.
Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, "Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed." After consulting the leaders of the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang:
"Give thanks to the Lord;
his faithful love endures forever!"
At the moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had finished off the army of Seir, they turned on each other.
So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, there were dead bodies lying on the ground for as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.
For those who are facing a battle that seems insurmountable I give you this verse. I don't think I ever saw this the way I did today. Gods people set there fears before God, humbled themselves and resolved that they could not stand alone against such a mighty army. Then God spoke through Jahaziel, the bible says he was just a man standing there, not a prophet or a priest. He tells them the battle is not yours but God's. In fact you wont even need to fight. And in fact they didn't, they prayed, and the next morning began to sing praises to God and by the time they got to the lookout the battle was over.
God moved in such a way that He caused the enemy to turn in on themselves.
We can see a similar victory in Paul's life in Prison as he was singing praises to God and the Angel of the Lord set Him free.
Here is my encouragement today;
There are some things in this life we will need to fight and others that the Lord says we don't.
Trust in the Lord to help you discern which is which and watch as the Lord turns your enemies against themselves.
Praise Him always and He will deliver you.
Its a long read today but well worth it.
