Luke 4:1-2 (NKJV)
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.
It is very important to remember that Jesus was God, but in mans form. So he took on the same physical traits as us. He was tempted in every way that we are and probably more, satan knew there was a lot at stake here, if he could get this one to fall, the rest would be easy.
Heb 4:15-16
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
NKJV
Some friends and I are coming off of a 21 day fast today, a far stretch from 40 but effective just the same. I know that satan tried to throw extra arsenal at me, and some of it worked to get me distracted. But I never took my eyes off the one I was doing the fast for. If anything it made me turn to Him more because I know that on my own I could not have went through the things I did with out Him.
Friends, don't be fooled, if satans little demons aren't bugging you, then perhaps you aren't doing anything to worry him in his plan. Why would he bother anyone that's helping him.
He doesn't want the kingdom of God to grow, or for you to draw closer to God, so when you do something positive for the kingdom, expect real challenges to come your way, real temptations to be presented and every kind of bizarre circumstance you can imagine to be thrown your way, then be encouraged because you are doing something to upset the devil and grow the kingdom of God.
