Judg 6:11-16 (NIV)
The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior."
"But sir," Gideon replied, "if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, 'Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the Lord has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian."
The Lord turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?"
"But Lord," Gideon asked, "how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family."
The Lord answered, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together."
The Lord sometimes pick the least likely of people to do His mighty work, look at David, he was the youngest and the smallest in his family, in fact when they came to choose the heir to the throne, they didn't even consider him to be a candidate.
When God thinks its a great idea, we don't always see it that way. We tend to view ourselves with very different lens's than what God does. We fall back on excuses, or what someone has told us instead of trusting God to do what it is He says He will do. Think for a moment how history would be changed if Gideon had not finally trusted the angel of the Lord. Just for one He was able to break a cycle of Idol worship that his family was locked up in.
When we are able to redirect the course of our whole family in a positive direction, its one of the biggest battles we can win.
Is God saying to you "You are more than you can see right now"? Go ahead and give a listen and see what He has in store for you, perhaps this is the weekend that will change the course of history in your family.
