Was That Me?

John 7:16-18 (NIV)

Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

Matt 23:1-7 (NIV)

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

"Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them 'Rabbi.'

Those who attempt to know God’s will and do it will know intuitively that Jesus was telling the truth about himself. Have you ever listened to religious speakers and wondered if they were telling the truth? Test them: (1) their words should agree with, not contradict, the Bible; (2) their words should point to God and his will, not to themselves.

Pride can creep in at anytime, unknowingly you begin to do things because of the honorable mention that someone may give, sure it started with good intentions someone asks you to pray over a group or a team at church, the spirit of the Lord comes upon you and you suddenly pray the most powerful prayer, speaking things no one could have known and prophesying blessing over the group. In the following days you get the reports that your prayer was right on target and you are a mighty man of God, now it seems every time there is a prayer circle you are in the center to display your mighty works to be seen by men.
Did you see it? Did you see where the heart changed, and it turned from God using a vessel to me changing the world.
It happens that fast, people desire approval It is a human thing. The danger lies in places we cant see and most people cant see the damage they cause by over encouraging someone who at one point was just being used by God at a moment in time.

It is a good thing to check your spirit now and again, ask God to show you where that might be creeping in on you, and ask His help to remove it.
