First Love

Deut 6:4-9 THE MESSAGE

Attention, Israel!

God, our God! God the one and only!
Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got!
Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.



How far we have come, not in a good way. The bible starts out telling us to love God with all we have and for the most part we do, we start out strong , on fire, lots of passion to the point of being hard to be around. Then some point down the road we loose the drive, the fire is an amber, and life is busy. Busy at work, no time to love, busy at church, not time to love, busy at home, no time to love. The thing we need to get straight here is God is the same yesterday and today and tomorrow, His love never changes for us. As we get into the New Testament we see the command has not changed;

Matt 22:37-40
Jesus said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the Prophets hangs from them."

And Even at the very end as well God still wants us to finish strong loving Him more devoting time to Him, making Him a priority in our daily life not just a once a week obligation, that kind of devotion can lead to destruction as it was for the church of Ephesus;

Rev 2:4-5
"But you walked away from your first love — why? What's going on with you, anyway? Do you have any idea how far you've fallen? A Lucifer fall!

"Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I'm well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle.

If you have lost your passion for the One True God, if life, business and chaos has overtaken the place where He used to dwell in your heart, just call out to Him and be restored, ask Him what to reveal the things in your life that are holding you back from your first love. He is faithful and wants to be closer to you than you could even imagine.
Just reach out and tell Him your sorry and be renewed in His grace again.
