Doing Whats Right

1 Sam 24:3-7 (NIV)

He came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave. The men said, "This is the day the Lord spoke of when he said to you, 'I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.'" Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul's robe.

Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, "The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord's anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the Lord." With these words David rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.

So there he was, David had caught him with his pants down so to speak, this would have been an easy victory for David so easy in fact, he was able to sneak up to him and cut a piece of his robe off.

This had to have been one of the toughest decisions David would ever make, this king had been chasing him all over the countryside trying to kill him because of his jealousy and now he was finally going to pay.

David felt that still small voice in him thought that thought better of the situation, that inner voice that made him think about whether this was Gods will or his.

David scored good on this test in his life, to often we are so filled with wanting to repay our enemy that the only sound we hear is our burning desire to win and come out on top. But God has set us apart to look and do things different than the world for a reason, after all if there is no difference than what would the world see but just a replica of themselves?

Rom 12:14-15 Bless your persecutors

Rom 12:17 don't repay evil for evil
Rom 12:19 Save room for Gods wrath

God spells it out clearly and it is one of the biggest character tests you will ever face. If it seems harder to bless and forgive than to repay, than I'm guessing you should stop and rethink your actions. The right way isn't always the easiest.
Pray for your adversaries, And let God deal with them, we have to get about our Fathers business and a world to influence for Christ!
