Psalm 36:1-2 (NLT)
Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts.
They have no fear of God to restrain them.
In their blind conceit,
they cannot see how wicked they really are.
I cant help but be reminded at times of my former self and the way I used to live. Very much this way, no fear of God to restrain me, blind to Gods judgement. I have to think of that often when speaking to someone who is still stuck there because I always think to myself, if they could only feel the way I do they would understand and turn from there ways and lean on God. But when I was there I couldn't see it either.
Because the wicked have no fear of God, nothing restrains them from sinning. They plunge ahead as if nothing will happen to them. But God is just and is only delaying their punishment. This knowledge should hold us back from sinning. Let the fear of God do its work in you to keep you from sin. In your gratitude for God’s love, don’t ignore his justice.
Convinced of Sin, yet Fascinated by It
Professor Charles Rice, the botanist, once had a most thrilling experience with a rattlesnake. He was on a botanical expedition with a fellow scientist, and was sleeping in an open tent. He was aroused from his sleep, one morning, to find to his horror a large rattlesnake coiled on his chest with its head raised to strike at the least movement. While he realized his awful danger, the eyes of the snake seemed to fascinate him, and left him powerless to think or act in any way to save himself. The strain was so great that he mercifully swooned away, and his companion on awakening discovered the snake and destroyed it.
There are many times when people are conscious of their sins, and yet are so fascinated by their evil habits that they seem powerless to break away from them, or crush them out of existence; but if we will breathe a prayer to Christ we shall never lack His help in delivering us from the deadly danger of our sins.
