1 Sam 30:6-8
David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." Abiathar brought it to him, and David inquired of the Lord, "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?"
"Pursue them," he answered. "You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue."
NIV
David fully relied on the Lord to guide him in all he did, he directed his questions to him as if God was right there with a map of the whole place with the plan. David was confident in his prayer, and spoke to God knowing that He was right there and would answer him. David knew that God knows the beginning and the end of all things, and he put all his trust in him.
What an amazing concept. If we could grab hold of what David knew deep in his heart to be true, we would see a lot more victories in our lives. How much less would we struggle and go through mistake after mistake if we would just do what David did? You will notice it wasn't a long, on his face, crying for hours type of prayer, it was as simple as asking him 2 questions; "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?"And God answered "Pursue them, You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue."
Keep in mind that David was in a lot of turmoil and pain, his whole family as well as the families of his troops had all been raided and snatched from there camp, it was during this time that he went on to write Psalm 18
Ps 18:1-6
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the Lord;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears.
NIV
Oh that we as Christians today would be as close to God as David was, and to trust in Him, rely on Him as if He were right here in our midst.
He is in our midst, He is always present, and wants us to simply ask him a question so He can guide us.
